Does anyone know important information about vicksburg siege during the civil war?

Vicksburg surrendered to the Union army at the same time the Battle of Gettysburg was being fought. It opened the Mississippi river to Union forces and, more importantly, to Union shipping, which enabled more timely and sufficient resupply to Union troops fighting to put down the rebellion and reunite the country.
